CMHC Eco Plus

Previously called the CHMC Green Home Rebate, CMHC’s Eco Plus program offers a partial premium refund up to 25% to homeowners who purchase climate friendly housing insured through CMHC.

To qualify, your home must have an energy efficiency certificate or meet energy efficiency or greenhouse gas targets. For new homes, this certificate will typically be provided by your builder. For major renovations, ecostep can provide you with an energy efficiency certificate through a Home Energy Assessment of your home. This is the same assessment required through the Canada Greener Homes Grant and the Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate program.

Your application must be submitted within 24 months of the closing date of your mortgage.

Process

ecostep recommends the following path for our customers:

1. Contact ecostep to discuss your project and schedule an energy assessment
2. Complete a “pre” home energy assessment with ecostep. The cost of the “pre” and “post” energy assessment, up to $600, will be reimbursed IF the homeowner undertakes at least ONE upgrade through the Canada Greener Homes Grant.
3. Customer will receive a Homeowner Information Sheet with an EnerGuide rating and Renovation Upgrade Report. These can be used to help make decisions about retrofits and see what rebates are available before the renovation project begins.
4. Complete home renovation. Be sure to keep copies of all your receipts and invoices along the way.
5. Complete a “post” home energy assessment with ecostep. 
6. Submit application and supporting documentation including Renovation Upgrade Report to CHMC
